Volunteer Opportunities

Open PTA Board Positions: (PTA board meetings are held via Zoom, on the 1st Monday of the month at 7:30pm.)

  • President - Preside over meetings and manage PTA volunteers. Serve as primary liaison between PTA and Principal and Staff. Previous PTA experience or willingness to participate in NCPTA training preferred.

  • Vice-President(s) - Assist the President, fill in when President is absent, and possibly train to eventually take on the role of President. We can have more than one vice-president, and VPs can specialize in different areas, such as communications or fundraising. 

  • Secretary - Take minutes at PTA meetings, put together and send out agendas, maintain records. 

  • Treasurer - Disburse PTA funds and maintain financial records according the NCPTA guidelines, provide monthly reports at PTA board meetings.

  • Class Representatives, 1st through 4th Year - Get input from your student’s class on various matters, help plan social events.

  • Audit Review Committee Chair - Review bank statements once per month to make sure there is supporting documentation for every check written. Oversee the annual review in July or August. No advanced financial or accounting knowledge needed and this job only takes about one hour per month outside of meetings.

Open Non-board Positions: (These volunteers do not need to attend PTA meetings.)

  • Webmaster - Update Suarespace PTA website content as needed. Flexible hours. No coding experience necessary. Squarespace is easy to learn if you have basic computer skills.

  • Restaurant Night Coordinator - Work with local restaurants, e.g. Carolina Brewery, to plan give-back nights for the PTA and help publicize events.

  • Thrift Shop Representative - Attend monthly PTA Thrift Shop meetings one Monday evening per month and report back to PTA.

  • Prom Committee Chair - Lead a team of parents and students to plan the CEC Prom.

  • Staff Appreciation Helper - Help plan staff appreciation events within PTA budget, create online sign-up sheets, pick up and deliver food. 

  • Audit Review Committee - Work with two other volunteers and the PTA Treasurer to complete the PTA annual review checklist. No advanced financial knowledge needed. Time commitment is approximately two to three hours total, at a time that is convenient for you during the months of July or August. 

  • Thrift Shop Volunteers - Work as few or as many hours as you want at one of the three Chatham County PTA thrift shops (Cole Park, Pittsboro or Siler City) either during thrift shop hours or with other CEC families during evening and weekend work sessions. 

  • PTA Thrift Shop work session supervisor(s) or supervisor trainee(s) - Get trained as a supervisor for after-hours work sessions and oversee small groups of CEC students and parents.

  • “As Needed” volunteers. Sign up to be notified when we have a short-term volunteer need. You are always free to accept or decline.
